For me, this audio represented how the power of suggestion and thought plays a vital role in true relaxation. Because I have two young children--12 weeks and 3 years—I was really looking forward to this relaxation exercise. These days it is very difficult to relax, so I need all the help I can get. I love the sponge example he uses when referring to how our bodies react to stress. I think that most people suffer from the negative effects of muscle tension due to the fact that it is the number one symptom of stress. It took me a few tries to achieve the warmth in my extremities he was speaking of, but then again this may be due to the effects of sleep deprivation that I am currently experiencing. Since I am a work in progress, I will keep trying until I can truly say that “I feel energized!”
Eryn,
ReplyDeleteI have not had a chance to do the exercise yet, but I am one of those who does have trouble relaxing and I remember when I had young children it was even harder. I know all of these exercises will not come easily to me, but like look I will keep trying.
Hi Eryn, I wish sleep and good rest for you with babies that are so young. I remember what that was like but, as with all aspects of the journey to parenthood you will look back at some of those special middle of the night moments all to soon and think wow, it seems just yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI have tried the relaxation exercise once and I had marginal success I somehow ended up with very cold feet and only luke warm hands. I'm glad you mentioned that you had more success after trying it a few times. It gives me hope that I'll get there.
Goodnight and I do hope you all get some rest.
Eryn,
ReplyDeleteAs a single mother of two young girls I definitely know what it feels like to be sleep deprived. When I did the technique I did feel better although I wouldn't say energized but, it did help me do a little more homework than I thought I was going to get done tonight and that is definitely a plus!
Hi there, I can completely relate to the children part. When I work a fulltime job, take care of two small children, attend Kaplan U, take care of a home, and all the while the dad is out of town working to support his family, I too become so stressed at times I don't believe I will ever make it, but we have to push through. I feel that this relaxation tool is such a super cool way to just take a few minutes to just relax and breath. I love to just breath sometimes it makes my mind feel so much more refreshed!
